Sandhoppers - Closed

WE ARE FULL FOR THIS SUMMER BUT PLEASE JOIN OUR WAITING LIST FOR NEXT YEAR.

Sandhoppers is an introduction to Surf Life Saving skills and knowledge for 5, 6, 7 and 8 year olds. As well as beach games, the children will learn basic knowledge about the beach environment, including lifeguarding knowledge about the beach and sea environment. The children will be able to go in the sea, when the conditions are right to do so. All children will also undertake basic awards in beach knowledge and water skills. Overall, the aim is to instil enthusiasm for the beach environment through fun activities.

We are limited to 20 places. It will be offered to siblings initially, then opened up to the waiting list and then more widely.
Does my child need to be able to swim to join sandhoppers?

No. One of the main aims of Newquay Surf Life Saving Club is to teach beach safety and skills. An essential part of this is helping the children gain beach confidence, regardless of their starting ability.

Are the sessions properly supervised?

All sessions are run by experienced coaches, who are also qualified lifeguards. Coaches running the sessions are also CRB checked. Given the age of the children, we do ask that one parent / responsible adult remains with the child during the session. The role of this adult will be to encourage and support their child in all activities.

For Sandhoppers parent helpers must be 14+ and hold a tube rescue qualification- date TBC.

We would require one to one supervision, however we can make some allowances, such as twins and siblings.

Will we need to buy any equipment?

The only compulsory purchase is a club hat, which costs £7.00. All children must wear these hats at all sessions, as a safety measure, so that they are easily identified as club members. They need to have a wetsuit to wear at some sessions.

What does it cost?
£80 for a new parent (no existing SLSGB membership)
£55 for a parent with existing membership

This works out at
£25 SLSGB membership - Sandhopper
£25 SLSGB membership - Adult
£6 Tube rescue
£2.4 per session

Current member
£25 SLSGB - Sandhopper
£6 Tube rescue
£2.4 per session

These prices ensure you and your child have SLSGB membership, SLSGB Tube rescue qualification and weekly membership to Sandhoppers.
